The Youth Work Act 2001 provides a legal framework for the provision of Youth Work programmes and services and gives statutory responsibility to the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs at national level and to the VEC’s at local level for the development of Youth Work in their areas.

The role of the Co. Carlow VEC Youth Officer:

• To ensure adequate provision of youth work programmes and services in Co. Carlow in co-ordination with voluntary youth organisations

• To liaise with relevant organisations in preparing a yearly audit and 3 year youth work development plan for Co. Carlow

• To provide youth work clubs and organisations with funding, training, support, information sharing and networking opportunities

• To co-ordinate and assist with the delivery of programmes under the Young People’s Facilities and Services Fund (YPFSF)
